This disc put out by Eagle Rock Records proves how absolutely electrifying Gary Moore could be in a live performance. Tracks like the cherished “Military Man” stand up and shout out with an added excitement… it’s full speed ahead with that crunching metal guitar riff, the sweet ‘n swift chorus and then there’s the classic guitar lead, of course.
However, for Moore fans, the special prize on “Live At Montreux” is the inclusion of new songs like “Days of Heroes.” This song in particular is a great one that would have — most likely — ended up on Moore’s next studio album. The album would be worth every penny for this track alone.
Moore’s voice is suitable for the heavy blues played, and the heavy rock to be enjoyed. Yet, obviously, it’s his guitar playing that is the wonderment. Moore’s guitar leads, especially here, can be as melodic as heaven itself and then change in an instant to the sound of a nerve-splitting machete. And I certainly mean that last part as a compliment.
Gary Moore was so full of life in concert that this disc will be bittersweet. It’s an excellent reminder of how good he was onstage, but it comes with the sad realization that we have lost this extra-talented musician and the brilliant live experience he always brought to us.
