Review

Thrice will release Anthology, a 4-LP/2_CD live set recorded during their recent ‘farewell’ tour on October 30.

“This is a live record that is truly live,” comments drummer Riley Breckenridge, and his words are on the mark. The sound has a great honest quality to it, seemingly effect-free.

Thrice’s songs take on a raw invincibility here. For instance, “Kill Me Quickly” is wonderfully manic. The crowd clings to every word of the more commercial “The Artist in the Ambulance,” while a song like “Image of the Invisible” pleases them with a progressive quickness. “Under a Killing Moon” carries like a vintage metal song. And then, of course, there’s the memorable stop-and-start chug of “Silhouette.” It goes on. There are 24 songs here so there are some songs that are weaker live than others — no surprise that by-the number, commercial songs like ”Stare At the Sun” come off a bit weak — but for the most part Thrice has put out a successful sounding live album.

Thrice is a band that uses their multitude of influences of hard rock, metal, modern rock and mainstream rock to build a powerful creative package. This concert recording, Anthology, is proof that they have left a positive mark on rock music on a whole.

For collectors and vinyl enthusiasts, the LP box set will be a limited edition of 3000 stamped and numbered pieces which includes a 24-page booklet, two (2) black LP’s and two (2) white LP’s on 180 gram vinyl.
