Re-issued and remastered, Bearings is a Ronnie Montrose acoustic, instrumental solo album that starts off with the Pinball Wizard-y “All Aboard’ and continues with an Acoustic Alchemy feel throughout.
Standout song “Three Wishes” has some interesting twists and turns, as if it were written with non-stop enthusiasm, like a prog rocker celebrating on the beach in, say, Puerto Rico.
The remastered Bearings is clean, the acoustic guitar clear and sharp. All the songs are pleasing — at their best, soothing. There will be many who are unfamiliar with this mellow journey by Montrose. Bearings will pay off for fans collecting all things Montrose, or guitar enthusiasts seeking a taste of acoustic perfection, but regular rockers might be quickly put to sleep.
