Review

On their second album, Spiders offer retro-driving hard rock — the gutsy garage type — with the charismatic Ann-Sofie Hoyles fronting the band like an electric charge.

A primitive attitude brings a nice Iggy punk flavor to Shake Electric  … and Stooges, T-Rex … that’s where the influences come from, it’s obvious. In fact, the name of the band is appears to be a tip of the hat to ‘ol Ziggy Stardust.

There are a few songs that miss their full promise on Shake Electric — perhaps the band did not have enough of a producer’s guidance — but all you have to do is pop on the right songs like “Control,” step-on-gas rock’ roll that demands that you listen, or the beautiful vocal delivery of the ballad “Hard Times,” to be won over by these Swedes.
