Review

Thomsen’s Unbroken picks up quite a bit with “In Steel We Trust” thanks to the intense catchy guitar of René Thomsen. It continues from there with a classy metal of “New Horizon,” the galloping guitar of “Into the Unknown,” to the superior Denis Brosowski-induced traditional metal of “One.” Brosowski (Iron Fate) is the band’s newest vocalist, saved for the last two songs on the album, which are clearly superior than the others featured. Brosowski’s classy metal screams and vocal strengths are the ace in the hole.

If not starting off as a huge fan of Robert Soeterboek’s vocals (featured on most of Unbroken), he will grow on you — and the backing vocals/macho chants are a drag throughout — but, really, it’s the excellent production sound of René Thomsen’s guitar that’s worth the listen.

Unbroken also includes international known musician guests, from Udo Dirkschneider (check out his vocals with the doom metal pound of “We Made It”), Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath, Dio, Heaven & Hell), Bobby Jarzombek (Halford, Fates Warning, Sebastian Bach, Riot), David Vincent (Morbid Angel), Mathias Don Dieth (U.D.O.), Andre Hilgers (Rage, Sinner) and Helge Engelke (Fair Warning, Dreamtide).
