A limited edition, 7-inch vinyl picture disc of “For The Animals” and “Lucifer,” two brand new tracks from The Cult’s upcoming release, Choice of Weapon, will be made available exclusively for Record Store Day this Saturday, April 21.

“For The Animals” is the first official single from the new album, and reflects the rising tensions, the rage and hostility of the growing group of disenfranchised youth in our society. Choice of Weapon, due out May 22 (Cooking Vinyl), was written by founding members Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy, and was co-produced by Chris Goss (Queens of the Stone Age, U.N.K.L.E., Masters of Reality) and Bob Rock (Metallica, Bush, and The Cult’s Platinum-certified Sonic Temple. Early reviews have been full of praise, with the Toronto Star’s Ben Rayner writing that the new album “feels like the work of the cosmically inclined outfit responsible for such durable records as Love, Electric, and Sonic Temple.”

In support of Choice Weapon, The Cult – Astbury, Duffy, bassist Chris Wyse and John Tempesta on drums – will kick off a world tour on May 25 with a 20-date headline U.S. trek, followed by a three-week tour of Europe. Dates are below.

Record Store Day is the one day that independently-owned record stores come together to celebrate the art of music, making available special vinyl and CD releases exclusively. Some 700 independent record stores in the U.S. as well as hundreds of indie record stores around the world, participate in Record Store Day.
