Top 10 metal items sold on eBay: Week of July 27

Here are the top 10 heavy metal items sold on eBay last week, July 21 – July 27 (listed in order of highest price in both categories “music” and “entertainment memorabilia”):

1. Tyranny – “Rock It” 7″ 45 (1979, Riff Records)

Cha-ching! A lucky seller hooked someone for seven hundred and change for this 7″ 45 (photo above) of an obscure hard rock band named Tyranny. But as Discogs puts it: “This limited edition 45 rpm record was distributed locally in the Southern California, USA area.” And this copy was once owned (supposedly) by a member of the band. The record also comes with a crack (not a good thing).

Winning Bid: $761.00

Starting Price: $5.00

Number of Bids: 13

Seller’s Comments: “Here is a Hard Rock Heavy Metal 45 by Tyranny.  It’s on (RIFF  Records) CA, USA  Songs are “Rock It”  & “She ain’t comin Back”.  Record is in VG- condition Looks bad at first glance but mostly paper scuffs there is a small CRACK 1/4″ but plays right though with no problem, The tracks below are from this record so you can hear for yourself. Never came with a PS. OK now for how RARE this really is. First it is Rob Griffin. Pre – Graven Image. This has been re-issued on OPM records, the copy used for that reissue was in worst shape then this copy and is the only other known copy in collectors hands. The story I got was when they went to pick this up from the pressing plant the B side labels had the wrong band name (Not Tyranny) so the band grabbed a handful and left they never had it fixed and repressed, Each band member (5) got 1 copy each, The copy used for the re-issue was Rob Griffin’s (He has since sold that copy to a German Collector) This copy came from the singer Dave Chumchal .
A real historic piece of USA Metal history.”

  2. My dad, Don Ivie, recorded the drums on the Tyranny 45. I have known Rob Griffin my whole life but I know him as Uncle Rob :) . Awesome to see this!

Well, did Rob really sold the Tyranny 45 to me? Am i really a german collector? Questions over questions. Both mentionings are wrong, That’s how rumors are born.
